Pete Hegseth visits Offutt Air Force Base

OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. —

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is in and around Omaha on Monday.

Hegseth landed at Offutt Air Force Base on Monday morning to visit the U.S. Strategic Command headquarters.

Hegseth’s visit comes as part of the “Arsenal of Freedom Tour” emphasizing the importance of the U.S.’s defense industrial base.

The Department of Defense said that the tour is meant to invest and expand military manufacturing on U.S. soil.

“For too long we outsourced those capabilities, or we didn’t invest in our defense industrial base, and we allowed our defense companies to effectively become appendages of government,” Hegseth said.

After his stop in Nebraska, Hegseth is headed to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to meet with a global defense manufacturer.
