Nebraska City Police Department says sexual assault suspect found dead in home after standoff
NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. —
Police in Nebraska City say a suspect was found dead in a home after a standoff Friday night. The Nebraska City Police Department says officers arrested Jackson Kelly for first-degree sexual assault just before 4 p.m.
As officers were arriving at the jail, Nebraska City police say Kelly escaped and ran. They say Kelly was able to barricade himself inside a home near Fifth Corso and Eighth Street. Officers posted on social media asking people to avoid the area.

Police requested the Nebraska State Patrol due to Kelly’s felony arrest and alleged possession of firearms.
Investigators say Nebraska state troopers began trying to get Kelly to come out. They say after repeated attempts, a SWAT team went in and found Kelly in the basement.
Nebraska City police believe Kelly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The department says no officers fired their weapons and no officers were hurt.
A grand jury will investigate as per Nebraska state statute.
