Popular hair mousse sold in multiple states recalled due to “risk of explosion”

If you make Schwarzkopf mousse part of your hairstyling routine, here’s some important news. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of a specific Schwarzkopf product because of a potentially dangerous packaging defect.
On Aug. 11, Henkel Corporation, the owner and manufacturer of the Schwarzkopf brand, stated that it’s voluntarily recalling Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip 6.76 fl oz/200 mL, which was sold in the U.S. to both salons and consumers. When cans of the mousse are under pressure, they can leak, and subsequently that leak could cause an explosion.

The company learned about the risk after receiving one customer complaint and two salon-reported complaints. The customer suffered bruising on their hand during the incident they were involved in. No other injuries have been reported so far.
Which cans of mousse are being recalled?
The mousse comes in aluminum cans from 25 lots and was distributed by 21 distributors in Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Washington. Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip 6.76 fl oz/200 mL mousse in cans with codes not included in the recall are safe to use, Henkel says, and none of the company’s other products are affected.
What should you do if you bought the affected hair mousse?
Don’t use it. Henkel says you can take the can back to the retailer where you bought it and receive a full refund. If you have any questions, you can call Henkel’s customer specialists at 1-800-234-4672, Monday to Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Friday from 6 a.m. to noon, PT.
