While thousands of shareholders gathered in Omaha for the Berkshire Hathaway weekend, protesters assembled at Memorial Park to rally against billionaires. The rally was one of several May Day protests held across the country. Attendees voiced their concerns through signs and expressed support for union workers striking at Premier Midwest Beverage. Speakers at the event shared their fears about the current state of the economy. “Right now, we’re facing unprecedented pressures with increasing costs of inputs. Under the current market price and the current structure, many farmers are going to continue to struggle over the next coming years. And we could lose that next wave of family farmers that built up the state of Nebraska and the Midwestern part of the country,” Graham Christensen said.
