*** senior White House official tells me that because the U.S.Iran ceasefire began in early April and no strikes have happened since, the war is technically terminated. Therefore, the 60 day deadline does not apply. President Trump says that the law itself is unconstitutional. It’s never been. Used it’s never been adhered to, and every other president considered it totally unconstitutional, and we agree with that. While the president is claiming victory, the ongoing standoff between the US and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz persists as Iran maintains control over the essential waterway while the US Navy enforces its blockade. And so far there’s No clear path to reaching *** long-term peace deal. President Donald Trump says he is not satisfied with Iran’s newest proposal, adding few details, but saying they’ve asked for things he can’t agree to. He confirmed negotiations are continuing by phone, but described Iranian leadership as extremely disjointed in terms of the negotiation telephonically. They’ve made strides, but I’m not sure if they ever get there. There’s tremendous discord. There’s tremendous. They’re having *** tremendous problem getting along with each other in Iran. And when asked on what happens next, President Trump laid out two options either make *** deal or quote blast Iran. Reporting at the White House, I’m Amy Lowe.
