SNIPES, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ONE OMAHA, SAYS SHE’S BEEN COMING FOR YEARS, BUT SHE ALWAYS WALKS AWAY WITH SOMETHING NEW, SOMETHING ELSE THAT THEY TALKED ABOUT WAS TRAINING OUR YOUNG PEOPLE TO COLLECT STORIES AND BE ABLE TO TELL THOSE STORIES, AS WELL AS AMBASSADORS. AND ON THE OTHER SIDE, SHE SHARES POSSIBLE IDEAS WITH VISITORS. SHE SAYS AN OKLAHOMA ADVOCATE HOPES TO CREATE AN ECONOMIC AND HISTORIC CORRIDOR LIKE NORTH 24TH STREET IN HER OWN TOWN. It started with Omhaa, but the Rebuilding the Village Conference is now international.”Communities from all across the country are able to come in to learn from the great things that we’re doing here in Omaha, but also able to bring their expertise to help enhance the work that we’re doing in Omaha,” Jonathan Chapman, vice president of Empowerment Network, said.Community leaders from Kansas, Oklahoma, Indiana, Louisiana, Canada and more learned how to uplift and improve their communities.”This isn’t about checking boxes,” Suzan Hart, a speaker from Ontario, said. “This is about having dialogue that transforms lives, breaks down barriers and allows us to truly collaborate together.””This is where the work starts, right?” Kimara Snipes, executive director of One Omaha, said. “We make these connections and then we build on these relationships and really, really get a return on the investment of coming to this conference.”Snipes said she’s been coming for years, but she always walks away with something new.”Something else that they talked about was training our young people to collect stories and be able to tell those stories as well as ambassadors,” Snipes said.She also returned the favor by sharing ideas with visitors.
