Recall of dressers sold by Amazon, Walmart highlights ongoing danger of furniture tip-overs

Furniture tip-overs are a hidden danger in many homes, sending nearly 18,000 people to the E.R. each year, with children aged 5 and under accounting for most fatalities, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The rollout of the Stop Tip-overs of Unstable, Risky Dressers on Youth (STURDY) Act in 2023 has helped by requiring mandatory safety standards for all dressers sold in the U.S. But as a pair of recent recalls shows, not all manufacturers comply with the law.
The details
On July 23, 2026, the CPCS issued two separate recalls for about 10,040 Romorgniz 12-Drawer Fabric Dressers (sold on Amazon from May 2025 through March 2026 for $90) and for about 16,809 EnHomee 9-Drawer Fabric Dressers (sold on Walmart.com from September 2023 through March 2026 for $80).

Both furnishings violated the STURDY Act and therefore pose tip-over and entrapment hazards that can lead to the risk of serious injuries or death to children.
What to do if you own a recalled dresser
Stop using any recalled dressers that are not anchored to the wall and place them in an area that’s inaccessible to children. Take a photo of the furnishing so the companies can identify the model.

How to protect against tip-overs
Keep in mind that the STURDY Act only applies to dressers. There are other tip-over hazards in most homes. Here’s how to keep your loved ones safe.
- Anchor all top-heavy furniture. That includes dressers, bookcases, and mirrors. Secure them to the wall with anti-tip straps or brackets, ensuring they catch a wall stud when anchoring.
- Install dresser drawer stops. These will prevent small children from pulling the drawer out all the way. It’s also important to store heavier items in the lowest drawers to maintain a low center of gravity.
- Mount the TV, whenever possible. TVs that are securely mounted to the wall are the safest option. If you can’t mount the TV, only place it on furniture designed to hold a television, such as a television stand or media center.
- Remove temptation. Keep items that might tempt kids to climb, like toys, treats, and remotes, off the top of the TV and furniture.
