The Sarpy County Fair concludes today in Springfield, featuring 4-H and other activities starting at 10 a.m.

SARPY COUNTY, Neb. —

The Sarpy County Fair wraps up today in Springfield, offering final events, including a plethora of 4-H “static” exhibits and projects.

For Lexi Jansen, whose family has been involved with the fair for generations, the event is a chance to reconnect with familiar faces and celebrate the work put in by local exhibitors throughout the year.

“The fair to me just means a time to get together with community people that you’ve known forever,” Jansen said.

Agriculture remains a central part of the fair, with participants bringing livestock, baked goods, flowers and other static exhibits. Fair spokesperson Cheri Duryea said the event gives visitors a chance to learn more about an industry that has played a major role in Nebraska’s history.

“It’s an important part of our heritage,” Duryea said. “Especially in the state of Nebraska, ag has been huge forever and still is.”

Sarpy County is Nebraska’s fastest-growing county, and Jansen said that growth has changed the local landscape and the way the fair operates. Still, she believes the fair will continue because of volunteers and exhibitors committed to agriculture.

“I think that it’s always going to be here,” Jansen said. “It just might be a little bit different.”

The next Sarpy County Fair is scheduled for Aug. 4-8. Tickets are expected to go on sale in May.
