She asked a stranger to sit on her porch. What happened next went viral

What started with a ring of a stranger’s doorbell has turned into a friendship two South Florida women never saw coming.

Dara, who works at a Wendy’s in Palm Beach County, was having a difficult day at work when she decided she needed a few minutes away.

She walked through the neighborhood, stopped in front of a house she had never visited before, and debated whether she should knock.

“I paced back and forth from over there for a little bit. Like, go home or stay, go home or stay,” Dara said.

Dara said she needed somewhere to sit down and breathe.

Then she rang the doorbell.

“Hi, I work at the Wendy’s over there. I’m on my break and didn’t want to walk all the way home. Can I just sit right there and eat my lunch?” Dara said in the Ring camera video.

Dara says she doesn’t know what drew her to Abigail’s porch.

Abigail Mwaungulu was working from home when she answered.

Her first thought?

“I thought Wendy’s delivered,” Abigail said.

But instead of questioning the unexpected request, Abigail said she tried to imagine herself in Dara’s shoes.

“If I was having a rough day, I would want someone to be kind to me as well,” Abigail said.

So she said yes.

For Dara, that simple answer meant more than Abigail realized.

“I was trying not to cry when I was eating because I was so happy she said yes,” Dara said.

Dara and Abigail quickly formed a close friendship.

A viral moment

Abigail posted the interaction on TikTok, and it quickly took off, eventually reaching more than a million views.

The internet wasn’t just captivated by the unusual encounter. People wanted to know what happened next, and Abigail did, too.

“I had this crazy idea. I’ve got to meet you,” she said to Dara.

The next day, Abigail went to the Wendy’s where Dara works.

But there was one problem: Dara wasn’t exactly ready to see her.

“I was avoiding her the first couple of minutes. I kept saying I was busy,” Dara said.

“You hid from me. You hid. You were like filling an empty cup,” Abigail said.

Eventually, Dara came outside, and the two finally met face-to-face. What began as an awkward encounter between two strangers quickly became something neither expected.

From strangers to friends

The two women say their friendship came naturally.

“It’s very natural. We just clicked,” Abigail said.

They’ve gone on dinner dates, walked around West Palm Beach, laughed until they cried and even started making videos together.

“We just laugh at the littlest things for no reason,” Abigail said.

Dara agreed.

“Maybe because she’s goofy. I am, too,” she said.

The friendship has also inspired both women to approach life in a different way.

Abigail says Dara’s willingness to approach a stranger challenged her to step outside the social norms that can keep people isolated.

The two women have started documenting their friendship on social media.

“She inspired me to be more against the current and not kind of follow the current trends of what everyone else is doing because you never know what could happen,” Abigail said.

For Dara, the lesson was just as powerful.

“Understand others’ situations. Understand their situation and be nice,” she said.

After learning that Dara walks to work every day, Abigail helped start a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for a car.

Dara says having her own vehicle would make a major difference.

The campaign has drawn thousands of dollars in support from strangers who first learned about Dara through the viral video. The women say the response has reminded them just how powerful a small act of kindness can be.

“I would say we need more kindness in the world, especially on social media because as you said, we’re always seeing such negative things,” Abigail said.

Dara says she doesn’t know what drew her to Abigail’s house that day, but she’s thankful it’s where she ended up.

And now, the stranger whose porch became a place for Dara to catch her breath has become something much more.

A friend.

“It’s like we got each other’s backs,” Abigail said.
