‘She didn’t deserve it’: Family remembers Omaha native killed in Georgia

OMAHA, Neb. —

An Omaha family is hurting after a mother of four was killed in Georgia. Police say 39-year-old Anthony Ware shot and killed 34-year-old Brandy Bess near Atlanta.

Both Ware and Bess are from Omaha.

“I just don’t understand. I’m just trying to wrap my head around this,” said Bess’ mother, Sherita Partee.

Pain and heartbreak are just some of the emotions Partee has felt ever since July 12, when police say the alleged murder happened.

“She didn’t… she didn’t deserve it,” Partee said. “I guess you just don’t really know people…. anybody can be a monster. Anybody can be that hateful that they feel that you have to take somebody’s life.”

Partee said her daughter and Ware were together on and off for about a year. She said Ware would usually fly to go see her daughter, but this time, he drove.

She says she didn’t see any signs of abuse when they were together.

“He was so quiet… when he’s around us, he didn’t really say too much of anything,” Partee said.

Ware from Omaha, was booked into the DeKalb County jail on a murder charge.

“It’s just not acceptable to just… hurt somebody… for the simple fact of somebody not wanting to be with you or somebody’s not doing something that you want,” Partee said.

KETV NewsWatch 7 reached out to the DeKalb County Attorney. They could not confirm any details of the alleged murder, calling it an open investigation. But they did confirm Ware and Bess were both from Nebraska.

“Just thinking about it now, he intended to do what he was going to do. If he couldn’t get my daughter to be back with him… he had intended this,” Partee said.

Bess’ family is now left with memories of their loved one, a mother and nurse.

“She wanted to go overseas and help people in other countries and things like that. This is what she wanted to do,” Partee said.

For Partee, spreading awareness about domestic violence has become her new mission.

“Just be aware of who you give your heart to. Just be aware of the people around you,” she said.

Partee said if Ware is eventually convicted in her daughter’s death, she plans to be at the sentencing and wants to give an impact statement.
