Iowa treasure hunt returns more than $38 million in unclaimed property to state residents

DES MOINES, Iowa —

More than $38 million in unclaimed property is being returned to Iowans.

The state showed off some of the items Wednesday, including a Cincinnati Reds-signed baseball and dozens of sports cards.

But the state treasurer’s office is not done yet.

Iowa State Treasurer Roby Smith said they want to return property items to their rightful owners.

“The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt is about more than dollars and cents. Every claim represents a family, a business or an individual being reunited with money or property they may not have even known that was missing,” Smith said.
