A disabled 70-year-old man had been living without air conditioning for more than a year. That is, until a stranger stepped in to help.

In early July, CBS News Miami found 70-year-old Wallace Sapp, who has a disability, suffering without air conditioning at his home.

His agreement to live there says the corporation will provide and pay for all necessary repairs, but a dispute over money kept maintenance workers away.

It moved Danny Bivens to call a friend with ties to this community for an introduction.

“An elderly person, as hot as it is right now — I work in the heat every day. It’s just, if I was able to help, I just, I wanted to,” said Bivens.

He runs an HVAC company and teaches students how to perform HVAC repairs.

On Friday, Bivens brought a student to learn a lesson at Sapp’s home.

“Ever since, it’s been cooling, and it’s cooling very slowly, but he’s coming back to see exactly what’s the problem and to want to fix it for me for no charge,” Sapp said.

“We’re going to make sure we get him right,” Bivens said.

Sapp said he feels “a whole lot better.”
