When a Texas family’s dog was attacked by a porcupine, they turned to their community for help. That’s when donations from strangers poured in, covering the entire vet bill.
Asia Guetzkow told KTXS that her family’s dog, Deuce, was rushed to a veterinary clinic, where staff said it was one of the most severe cases of porcupine quills they’d ever seen.

Knowing that they’d be facing a hefty vet bill, Guetzkow said she posted on a local community Facebook page, hoping for a little help.
“I just post it on a whim, really,” Guetzkow said. “I was just like, let’s just hope and pray that someone out there will help us because we– we love that dog.”
The community responded within minutes and eventually covered the bill in its entirety.
“The community being so willing to help us — and we’re all strangers — it meant so much,” Guetzkow said. “It really shows that there are good people in this world, and Abilene is a really good community to be a part of. These strangers, without any hesitation, were willing to help. They were calling the vet, making donations, and using their hard-earned money to help our dog.”
Guetzkow said people have also continued to check on Deuce’s recovery, and the vet clinic had to turn away donations for him by the end of the day.
