Thousands of air conditioners have been recalled due to severe fire and burn hazards.

More than 13,000 Amana-brand units have been recalled due to defects that pose “a risk of fire or burn injury to customers,” according to a report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

According to the release, the heating element can remain energized during a ground fault, despite being turned off. Officials say they have received one report of plastic on the unit melting, but no injuries have been reported.

The recall involves about 13,500 window-room-air-conditioners and through-the-wall air conditioners or heat pumps. The products are white-colored, and the brand name is printed on most of the units’ control covers.
