Boys Town says conduct was ‘deeply troubling’ as 3 former teachers face child abuse charges

OMAHA, Neb. —

Three former Boys Town teachers are accused in a child abuse case.

Jeffrey and Jennifer Everett, a married couple, are each charged with two counts of felony child abuse.

Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said the Everetts were arrested while they were caring for two Boys Town teenagers that were living with them on the Boys Town campus.

Kleine said one child, a 14-year-old girl, reported being locked in a closet for long periods of time on multiple occasions.

An 18-year-old accused the couple of not taking her to get treatment for a broken hand, Kleine said.

Jennifer Everett was held on $50,000 bond during a court appearance Friday, and Jeffrey Everett received $25,000 bond.

An arrest warrant was issued for a third former Boys Town employee. According to court documents, Margo Hoos is also accused of two counts of child abuse.

Kleine said Hoos was an assistant family teacher.

Boys Town called the alleged conduct “deeply troubling and wholly inconsistent with our policies, our training, and our values” in a statement.

“It has no place at Boys Town. When the concern was raised through our safety reporting processes, we took immediate action to protect the safety and well-being of the youth involved. We reported the matter to Child Protective Services and terminated the individuals responsible, and we continue cooperating with authorities as needed,” Boys Town said in a statement.
