Tight security around location of rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is taking place tonight at the Waldorf Astoria, three months after an alleged assassination attempt on President Donald Trump interrupted the original event.

The original dinner, scheduled at the Washington Hilton, was disrupted when a man rushed through a checkpoint and opened fire before being tackled and detained outside the ballroom.

Almost immediately after the incident, President Trump vowed to reschedule the event, which is now being held at a new location.

Security around the Waldorf Astoria began tightening days ahead of the dinner, and roads surrounding the venue are already closed.

Attendance at the rescheduled event will be lower, with the White House confirming that several officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, will not be attending.

The lineup for the evening remains largely unchanged. Scholarships awarded by the White House Correspondents’ Association will still be presented, and mentalist Oz Pearlman will once again provide entertainment.
