COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa —

A trial date has been set for a Florida man accused of murdering a 63-year-old at a Carter Lake hotel.

Joseph Bertolino is expected to appear in a Pottawattamie County courtroom at the start of June.

Authorities said Bertolino killed Kenneth Gauff at Country Inn and Suites Hotel in Carter Lake late last month.

He was arrested in Lincoln after he allegedly attacked a police officer at an Arby’s.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, while Bertolino was in custody, he “made concerning statements” in regard to an incident at the Country Inn and Suites Hotel in Carter Lake that had happened earlier that day.

The county said the 36-year-old’s trial is expected to start around mid-July.
