Three more hantavirus cruise ship passengers leave UNMC quarantine
The former cruise ship passengers are returning home for two more weeks of monitoring after four weeks in Omaha.
OMAHA, Neb. —
Three more former hantavirus cruise ship passengers left the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s National Quarantine Unit Tuesday after four weeks in Omaha.
They returned to their home states for two more weeks of monitoring by local and state health departments.

Their travel was coordinated by the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, and they did not travel commercially.
Ten former passengers remained in Omaha for monitoring, and eight others had already left the unit. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had asked the group to stay through Sunday, May 31, because hantavirus symptoms can take up to 42 days to appear.
UNMC and Nebraska Medicine are among 13 Regional Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Centers in the federal system.
