Prosecutors released new video showing the moments leading up to the attack at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner Saturday.The clip shows the alleged gunman, 31-year-old Cole Allen, walking across a hallway and off camera, followed by a security agent with a dog who pauses briefly before continuing down the hallway. Moments later, the suspect sprints down the hallway carrying a long gun toward more than half a dozen Secret Service agents and other security personnel. The video captures a Secret Service agent facing off with the suspect as the agent fires five times. Investigators said the agent was shot in his bulletproof vest but was uninjured. They believe the gunman fired the shot that struck the agent. The video ends with security swarming the area and arresting the suspect off-camera. Prosecutors also released footage from the day before the attack, showing the alleged gunman walking up and down a hallway and through the hotel gym, which investigators said appeared to be an attempt to get an idea of the layout. Defense attorneys, who had initially argued for the suspect’s release, agreed during a hearing Thursday that he should remain in jail ahead of his trial. Allen reportedly worked as a part-time tutor for a test preparation company and is an amateur video game developer.He faces up to life in prison on weapons charges and for attempting to assassinate the president.
