‘My husband could have been in that garage’: Video shows tractor-trailer plowing into garages after crash

A tractor-trailer plowed into two garages in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, after an SUV ran a stop sign on Wednesday, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Car runs stop sign, police say
According to state police, a 76-year-old woman driving a red Ford Escape failed to stop at a stop sign, continued into the intersection and struck the side of a tractor-trailer.

The impact caused the tractor-trailer to crash into two garages along Route 72, trapping its 56-year-old truck driver, according to investigators. Troopers said the driver had to be extricated by fire crews.
Both drivers were transported to Hershey Medical Center with what troopers said are minor injuries.
Sister station WGAL obtained surveillance footage that captured the collision.

Collapse teams assess damage
The crash caused extensive damage to the two garages.
Structural collapse teams, including a crew from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, were called to the scene to assess the damage.
Police said several other parked vehicles were struck and damaged. Diesel and paint that the truck was carrying also spilled.
Chief Rick Kreitzer of the Bunker Hill Fire Company noted that crashes at this intersection are not uncommon.
“This side has double stop signs, and so does that side. People just don’t pay attention, and being the old-timer, I can always blame it on phones, coffee, sandwiches and makeup,” Kreitzer said.
State police said the Ford driver is expected to be cited.
The incident remains under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police.
‘My husband could have been in that garage,’ homeowner says
The homeowners said the crash caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to their property, including three motorcycles and valuable memorabilia.
Homeowner Brianna Taylor said she was grateful no one was killed, stating that her husband frequently spends time working in the garage.
“My husband could have been in that garage. He frequently is in that garage,” said homeowner Brianna Taylor. “He just happened this morning to be a little slower getting around and was relaxing because he’s off work today. He could have been in there, and he probably would have been dead because right where that truck is sitting is right where his workbench is.”
Neighbors seek safety improvements
Residents are calling for additional safety measures along Route 72, where the posted speed limit is 45 mph. They say speeding and limited visibility make entering the highway dangerous.
“It’s hard to see out here when you come up that way. Or this way. And then they don’t. The speed limit. They don’t obey the speed limit,” one neighbor said.
Resident Taylor said the steady flow of tractor-trailers is especially concerning because children and school buses regularly travel through the area.
“There’s a lot of little kids in this area, so there’s buses out here,” Taylor said. “School starts in another month. These tractor-trailers go by continuously every day.”
