Walmart-sold pistachio nut butter recalled in 19 states

A nut butter sold by Walmart in 19 states has been recalled for potential Salmonella contamination.

Boticelli Foods issued the recall for one lot of bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter, which was manufactured in Italy, imported and distributed by Walmart, according to a notice posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The product was distributed to Walmart stores in the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, and Wyoming.

The nut butter was sold in a 6.7-ounce glass jar with UPC 194346207961 and is identified by Lot Code LB028ACP04. The recalled products had an expiration date of Jan. 28, 2027.

While no illnesses have been reported with this product to date, the recall was initiated after Walmart learned that in July, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services tested three jars of the product as part of a routine inspection and identified the presence of Salmonella.

According to the FDA, Salmonella is “an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”

Symptoms of infection from Salmonella include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Severe cases can cause the organism to get into the bloodstream and produce more severe illnesses.
