WATCH: Good Samaritan hits stop button for woman trapped on escalator where man died months earlier

A woman became trapped on an escalator at Davis Square Station in Somerville, Massachusetts, Friday morning months after a deadly escalator incident at the same MBTA station.

According to an MBTA spokesperson, a woman fell around 7 a.m. when her clothing got caught in the mechanism at the bottom of the escalator.

A good Samaritan who was riding the escalator ahead of the fallen woman hit the emergency stop button and helped her take off the piece of clothing, according to officials.

Surveillance video released Monday showed how the incident played out.

The woman who fell was transported to an area hospital for a hand injury. She is expected to be OK.

MBTA personnel and members of the Somerville Fire Department also responded and assisted.

“We thank the fellow rider who helped during the incident this morning by hitting the stop button,” a statement from the MBTA read. “In the event of an emergency, any member of the public can stop an escalator by pressing the red button labeled ‘STOP’ at the top and bottom of each escalator.”

In February, Steven McCluskey was killed after he fell while riding the escalator at Davis Square Station.

Surveillance video showed McCluskey getting onto the escalator and riding it to the bottom when he fell and a piece of his clothing became stuck in the machinery.

He attempted to get up, but failed and continued trying to free himself until he became motionless.

The video showed several people walking by and using an adjacent staircase after McCluskey fell, but only one person attempted to help before giving up and eventually walking away.

Over 20 minutes after McCluskey fell, police and EMTs arrived.

Ultimately, the piece of clothing that McCluskey was wearing choked him to death because it was trapped in the escalator.

The MBTA provided the following safety reminder for escalators, which they said also plays at all their stations:

• Hold onto the handrails when on the escalator.
• Always use caution, especially if you are with small children or carrying luggage.
• Be aware of loose clothing when on the escalator.
