Werner Park event to support families facing pediatric brain cancer
SammyStrong Foundation’s 5K and Home Run Derby at Werner Park raises funds for families affected by pediatric brain cancer.
OMAHA, Neb. —
The annual SammyStrong Foundation 5K and Home Run Derby returns for its sixth year.
Werner Park hosts the 1-mile run, 5K and Home Run Derby on Saturday, Aug. 1, supporting kids and families fighting pediatric brain cancer.
Pete Gassman, Sammy’s grandfather, and Landon Wemhoff, Sammy’s brother, shared details about the foundation and its upcoming event with KETV.

Gassman said the mission behind the SammyStrong Foundation is to help others walking through pediatric brain cancer. He said when Sammy was first diagnosed, the support was overwhelming, and their family knew they didn’t want him to feel alone.
The event is open to the public, with the fun kicking off at 7:30 a.m. and wrapping up at 2 p.m. at the ballfield.
