WE’RE JUST UNDER A WEEK AWAY FROM THE NEBRASKA PRIMARY ELECTION, AND YOU’LL NEED YOUR I.D. TO CAST YOUR VOTE. KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN’S CONNOR SCHMIT IS HELPING YOU GET THE FACTS ON WHAT NEBRASKANS NEED TO KNOW BEFORE THEY GO TO THE POLLS. IT’S A RURAL NEBRASKA ELECTION OFFICIALS CALL ROUTINE, BUT STILL LEAVES VOTERS WITH QUESTIONS. SINCE 2024, NEBRASKA HAS HAD A VOTER I.D. REQUIREMENT IN PLACE FOR OUR STATEWIDE ELECTIONS. AND THAT MEANS THAT IN ORDER TO CAST YOUR BALLOT, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PHOTO I.D. FROM THE APPROVED LIST OF IDS THAT ARE ACCEPTABLE FOR VOTING. THAT INCLUDES A NEBRASKA DRIVER’S LICENSE OR STATE I.D., A U.S. PASSPORT, MILITARY ID, TRIBAL I.D., AND SOME SCHOOL ISSUED PHOTO IDS. MOST VOTERS USE A DRIVER’S LICENSE, BUT STATE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS SAY THE BIGGEST THING IS MAKING SURE YOU BRING SOMETHING WITH YOUR NAME AND PHOTO. JUST BE PREPARED. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR VOTER I.D. WITH YOU. IF YOU DON’T HAVE ONE OF THOSE FORMS OF ID YOU CAN DO IS FILL OUT A REASONABLE IMPEDIMENT CERTIFICATION, AND YOU’LL HAVE TO PROVIDE SOME MATERIAL SUPPORTING SHOWING YOU WHO YOU ARE. DOUGLAS COUNTY ELECTION COMMISSIONER DANIEL JENSEN SAYS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS SURROUNDS EXPIRED IDS. SOMETIMES PEOPLE WONDER, HEY, MY ID EXPIRED. CAN I STILL USE IT? YES, THEY CAN. IF THE ADDRESS ON YOUR LICENSE DOESN’T MATCH YOUR CURRENT ADDRESS, THAT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY STOP YOU FROM VOTING. NEBRASKA DRIVER’S LICENSE. THE ADDRESS ON THEIR LICENSE DOESN’T MATCH WHAT’S IN THE BOOK. THAT’S FINE, AS LONG AS WHAT’S IN THE BOOK IS THEIR RESIDENCE. IF YOU FORGET YOUR ID, YOU STILL HAVE OPTIONS. YOU CAN LEAVE, GRAB IT, AND COME BACK BEFORE POLLS CLOSE OR VOTE. USING A PROVISIONAL BALLOT, THEY CAST A BALLOT. THE BALLOT GOES INTO AN ENVELOPE AND IT’S HELD, AND THEN THEY HAVE A WEEK TO COME IN AND TO BRING THEIR ID WITH THEM FOR THIS ELECTION. DOUGLAS COUNTY SAYS THAT DEADLINE IS MAY 19TH. IF YOU VOTE EARLY IN PERSON, THE SAME ID RULES APPLY. TAKE A LOOK AT THE ISSUES. TAKE A LOOK AT THE RACES. TAKE A LOOK AT THE CANDIDATES. INFORM YOURSELF BEFORE YOU GO IN. DON’T FORGET
