As news on “The Princess Diaries 3” continues to trickle out, Julie Andrews — who plays Queen Clarisse—confirmed today she will not be participating in the film.

“I think the absolute truth is that I think I’m really past all that now,” Andrews told the Hollywood Reporter. “I’m not completely retired, but it’s a different kind of work that I do these days — [writing] books, and I do a lot of recording of podcasts and voiceovers. But truly, I don’t think I should be a part of it.”

She added, “It isn’t that I’m not enthusiastic for it. It’s just that I really don’t feel I should be part of it now.”

When Andrews was asked about what she hopes the third film explores, she replied, “Actually don’t know. I think it proceeds from the second “Princess Diaries.” It moves on, but by now Annie, too, is a little older than she was when she did it. I’m interested to see what Meg [Cabot] and Annie and everybody comes up with.”

Set to return, as Andrews indicated, is Anne Hathaway as Mia Thermopolis, the new Queen of Genovia. No real plot details have been shared but director Adele Lim revealed, “If you were a fan of the original first two movies, I think you can look forward to a lot of fun returns. We’re going to be able to shoot in Europe and really show the audience Genovia in its full glory.” Meg Cabot, the author of “The Princess Diaries” series, previously told Town & Country that she would hope a third film would explore “more about Genovia.”

No timeline has been set for release, either. “I’m busy making baby No. 3, and that has sort of taken the place of knowing exactly when I can make ‘Princess Diaries 3,’” Hathaway told Andy Cohen last month. “But I can say I think we had a story breakthrough. I think we are moving in the right direction. The script that we were working on — we kind of had to start over with this new direction, which is not the update I think anybody wants, but we all feel really good that this is gonna be the one.”
