Years of wisdom: Meet Hercules, the Nebraska Humane Society’s pet of the week

Each week, KETV NewsWatch 7 showcases an animal up for adoption at the Nebraska Humane Society.

Have you ever adopted a Roman God from ‘ruff’-ly 1200 BC? Don’t say you never had the chance! Hercules, a 12-year-old Boxer mix, is among the more “experienced” dogs available for adoption at the Nebraska Humane Society.

And with all those years of experience comes years of wisdom! Hercules is well-trained (sit, down, stay, shake and come), and he loves to keep his brain working. To top it all off, the Nebraska Humane Society is running an adoption special: all dogs 25+ pounds have $25 adoption fees.

Hercules can get pretty stressed out in his kennel, which means your first impression might not be him at his best. Once he’s out and about, you’ll find a sweet, fun, tender-hearted boy who still loves playing with toys — especially plushies — and running laps in the yard.

Don’t let his age fool you. Hercules still has plenty of energy and does great with other dogs in playgroup. If you’re interested in meeting him, we do recommend introducing him to any potential humans or dog siblings before bringing him home.

We’re still working on the math for how 12 human years somehow equals about 3,200 dog years, but don’t miss your chance to adopt a pet, like Hercules, who can teach you all about ancient history.
