Omaha advocacy groups help residents understand, engage in city budget discussions
Another workshop is scheduled for August, after the budget proposal is released.
OMAHA, Neb. —
Advocacy groups in Omaha are calling on residents to get involved in the city’s yearly budget process, highlighting its influence on services like parks, libraries, and public safety.
The first session of the “The People’s Budget” was held Tuesday at Family Housing Advisory Services. It was hosted by multiple groups, including Strongly Worded Letters, a nonprofit dedicated to civic education. The goal is to make the process more accessible and encourage community participation.

“We do events like this to help people understand and make it easier to get involved. I think that a really small number of people is all it takes to make a difference at the local level,” said Gab Rima, co-founder of Strongly Worded Letters.
The next workshop is scheduled for Aug. 4, after the city budget is released. It will be held at Together Omaha near South 24th and Leavenworth at 6:30 p.m.
