An Omaha boxer was found not guilty on Thursday in connection with a shooting that injured a 14-year-old girl in 2024.
OMAHA, Neb. —
An Omaha boxer was found not guilty on Thursday in connection with a shooting that injured a 14-year-old girl in 2024.
The verdict came down for Steven Nelson, 38, after a bench trial on Thursday. Nelson was facing charges of assault, use of a gun to commit a felony and shooting at an occupied vehicle.

Nelson was accused of shooting the 14-year-old after his vehicle was allegedly stolen from the area of 39th and Farnam streets in March 2024.
Nelson, an Omaha native, is a professional boxer and coach at B&B Sports Academy. He previously held the WBO-NABO super middleweight title. Nelson’s career record is 20-2 with 16 knockouts.
