NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. —

The video shows Deputy Gourley and another person rushing into the water and pulling the 68-year-old woman back onto dry land, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said on social media.

The woman was unresponsive and without a pulse, but deputies Gourley and Manhart immediately began CPR and revived her, the post states. Volusia County Beach Safety soon arrived on scene and saw to it that the woman was taken to the hospital, where she was stable at last check, the sheriff’s office said.

The post continues, stating the deputies involved in the rescue are due for awards.

“This serves as a powerful reminder that alert beachgoers, like those who spotted the woman and quickly alerted deputies, can make all the difference,” the post states. “Life-saving awards are forthcoming for the deputies involved for their heroic actions.”
