Sarpy County asks for witness video of officer-involved shooting
PAPILLION, Neb. —
Friday’s officer-involved shooting left the Papillion Home Depot with plywood covering it’s windows after the suspect drove his vehicle into the building.
Sarpy County officials believe the incident started with gunfire in the Tara Plaza parking lot. The suspect then led officers on a chase to 96th and Portal Road before turning around and heading back towards the Home Depot.

That is where the suspect, James Bolter III, exchanged gunfire with officers and endured life-threatening injuries. He later died from those wounds.

The Sarpy County Force Investigation Team is leading the investigation. They said there were many witnesses to the incident and are now asking them for help. Officers ask that any videos of the situation be shared with them. County Attorney John Reisz said these recordings are vital to the investigation and the grand jury processing.
“It’s very helpful. Law enforcement is locked in on what they’re trying to do. They’re in the car, they’re in a chase or they’re facing the suspect in the vehicle,” Reisz said. “They’re trying to figure out what to do in that tight situation, so the video from the outside is very helpful because it’s independent. They don’t know what’s going on, they’re just observing, and that’s where the video helps.”
The Sarpy County Attorney’s Office said they have received multiple briefings on the incident and have said there is a lot of investigative work for law enforcement.
KETV reached out to officials for information about the incident including if any officers have been placed on administrative leave. We have not heard back yet.
