TODAY, TWO IOWA SOLDIERS WERE LAID TO REST. MAJOR JEFFREY O’BRIEN AND SERGEANT DECLAN CODY WERE KILLED IN THE SAME IRANIAN DRONE STRIKE IN KUWAIT. HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ALSO GATHERED FOR AN EMOTIONAL DAY PAYING THEIR RESPECTS TO THE FALLEN HEROES. MAJOR O’BRIEN’S FUNERAL WAS HELD AT 10:00 THIS MORNING AT VALLEY CHURCH IN WEST DES MOINES, SARGENT CODY’S WAS HELD AT 2 P.M. AT THE BRIDGE CHURCH IN JOHNSTON, IOWA. BOTH SERVICES WERE FOLLOWED BY A PROCESSION THAT INCLUDED THE IOWA STATE PATROL. LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT IN IOWA, PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS. SKY IS STILL BLUE, YET IT’S A LITTLE GRAYER. THE GRASS IS STILL GREEN, BUT IT’S A LITTLE PALER. THE SUN STILL SHINES, BUT IT’S A LITTLE DIMMER. AND WE WILL ALL KEEP MOVING FORWARD, BUT JUST A LITTLE SLOWER THROUGH EVERYTHING. DECLAN STAYED POSITIVE. HE ALWAYS HAD A SMILE OR A SMIRK, AND IT’S HARD TO REMEMBER A TIME WHEN HE WAS TRULY NEGATIVE. OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, WE’VE COME TO REALIZE JUST HOW MUCH THAT QUALITY WAS SEEN AND FELT BY EVERYONE WHO KNEW HIM.
