For many Omaha families, youth sports can be expensive and out of reach.Josh Jones, founder of the Fair Game Project, says it’s “designed to unify everyone into one essential ecosystem and give pathways from elementary to high school.”The Fair Game Project is a new sports federation built to connect Omaha Public Schools students with school and community athletics through one system. “There would be different offerings and services that allow them year-round opportunity to, whether it’s recreationally or competitively,” Jones said.The project will launch first with basketball, football and volleyball, with additional sports expected to follow. “We know that, particularly with youth sports, it’s almost become a pay-to-play proposition. And unfortunately, some of the kids get priced out in terms of their ability to participate,” said Chief of Staff Thomas Warren. As part of the effort, Omaha Public Schools students will gain expanded access to city-owned facilities, including gyms, football fields, baseball and softball complexes and new soccer spaces.“We talk about sports equity and leveling the playing field and making sure that our youth and young adults have access to state-of-the-art facilities at an affordable cost,” Warren said.
