FIRE MARSHAL AND OSHA ARE INVESTIGATING. DES MOINES POLICE NAMED THE PEOPLE INVOLVED IN A SHOOTING DURING A WELFARE CHECK LAST WEEK. THE DEPARTMENT SAYS SENIOR OFFICER NOAH DEVANEY SHOT AND KILLED 33 YEAR OLD ZACHARY JEFFREY IN AN APARTMENT COMPLEX HALLWAY. POLICE SAY THEY WERE THERE TO CHECK IN ON MA. TASHA MCKENZY, WHO WAS FOUND DEAD INSIDE THE APARTMENT RENTED BY JEFFREY. THEY SAY JEFFREY MCKENZY WERE IN A RELATIONSHIP. MACKENZIE’S DEATH IS BEING INVESTIGATED AS A HOMICIDE. David Ewing, the father of Martasha McKenzie, is coping with the shock of his daughter’s death after she was found dead in her ex-boyfriend’s apartment on Des Moines’s south side this week.Ewing said he is still trying to cope with the loss of his daughter.Police identified McKenzie, 33, and reported that her ex-boyfriend was shot and killed by officers Tuesday night after he attacked them with a knife. Ewing had called police for a welfare check when McKenzie did not answer her phone. Upon entering the apartment, police said the boyfriend attacked Ewing and the officers with a knife.”I seen all the blood when he raised his arm up to jab it. I seen his eyes. He was lost. The man was lost, and he wanted to die. He had cut himself up. It was like, this man was full of adrenaline and trying to off himself. So, would the officer, whoever he is. I mean, he’s never going to forget that,” Ewing said.Despite the tragedy, Ewing said his daughter would want him to forgive her ex-boyfriend.”I can. I can forgive him.
