Food Bank for The Heartland hit hard by gas price increase
OMAHA, Neb. —
The Food Bank for the Heartland expects to spend around $10,000 more on gas this year.
“It also affects our neighbors in need,” said Stephanie Sullivan, Food Bank for the Heartland’s assistant director of marketing and communications. “They’re looking at higher gas prices, living costs, and healthcare costs. The first thing that gets cut from their budget is food. And unfortunately, we have spoken to neighbors who are skipping meals right now to ensure that their children have the food that they need to eat.”

Food Bank for the Heartland has the second-largest region in the Feeding America Network. They cover 93 counties from western Nebraska to west Iowa. Their feel of 11 trucks travel more than 5,300 miles every week, Sullivan said.
