Graham Platner timeline: Controversies during his Senate campaign

Graham Platner, the Democratic nominee for the Maine U.S. Senate seat, ended his campaign Wednesday after a former girlfriend alleged he sexual assaulted her in late 2021.
The Maine Democratic State Committee held an emergency meeting on Wednesday afternoon and State Rep. Valli Geiger told Maine’s Total Coverage that Platner was supporting her to take his place on the ballot.

The drop from the race comes as Maine and national Democratic leaders urged Platner to withdraw from the race following the allegation. The Maine Senate seat, currently held by Republican Sen. Susan Collins, is considered a key pickup opportunity for Democrats as they seek to regain control of the Senate.
