Here’s how to stop Meta’s new AI model from using your Instagram pics
Digital Editor
Meta has launched a new AI image tool called Muse Image that lets users create AI-generated images inspired by public Instagram profiles.
The feature launched Tuesday and is already raising privacy concerns because anyone can reference a public account in a prompt to generate images inspired by that person’s photos, style or appearance.

Meta says Muse Image is designed to be a creative assistant “rooted in your world,” but users will not be notified if someone creates AI content based on their profile.
The feature is enabled by default for public accounts, though users can opt out.
What is Muse Image?
Muse Image allows people to generate custom images using content from public Instagram profiles. While Meta says the tool is meant to help create more personalized images, it also means public posts can be repurposed in ways many users may not expect.
You can see how the feature works in the video player above.
How do I opt out?
If you don’t want your public Instagram content used for these AI features, you can change your privacy settings in the Instagram app.
Open Instagram, tap your profile, then tap the three-line menu in the upper-right corner and select “Settings and activity.”
Scroll to “Sharing and reuse,” then find “Allow people to reuse your content on Instagram and with AI features at Meta.” Turn off the toggles for both Posts and Reels.
Keep in mind that opting out won’t remove content that has already been used for AI training, and some AI features may still rely on information shared by other users.
It’s also a good idea to review your privacy settings periodically as Meta introduces new AI tools and updates.
