High school senior in Florida killed in crash hours before graduation
A high school senior was killed in a crash in Florida on Thursday, hours before his graduation, according to the Martin County School District. The crash happened right outside South Fork High School around 8:40 a.m., while students prepared for graduation practice ahead of Thursday night’s ceremony. The student has been identified as Christopher Brooks, of Hobe Sound, Florida.The school district released the following statement shortly before 10 a.m.:”We are aware of a serious traffic incident that occurred this morning near South Fork High School. It is heartbreaking to share that the incident resulted in the loss of one of our seniors. “The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating and remains on scene. The roadway in front of the school is currently blocked off, and we ask families and community members to avoid the area if possible.”Out of respect for the student and their family, we are not able to share additional details at this time. Our hearts are with everyone impacted by this tragedy, including our students, staff, and school community. Counseling support will be available for students and staff, and information will be shared directly with families.”We ask that you please keep those affected in your thoughts and prayers and be mindful and respectful in comments as this situation unfolds. Additional information will be shared when appropriate.”
