AS NEBRASKA AND IOWA FEEL THE LOSS OF THREE ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS CORPORAL DAEGAN PAGE MOTHER, WENDI ADELSON, SAYS HER OWN FEELINGS OF LOSS ARE RESURFACING. PAIGE WAS A MARINE CORPORAL KILLED IN A TERRORIST ATTACK IN AFGHANISTAN IN 2021. I KNEW THIS DAY WOULD COME WHERE THERE WOULD BE A LOCAL HERO WHO LOSES THEIR LIFE IN A CONFLICT. AFTER DIGGING. BUT ADELSON DIDN’T EXPECT THE DAY TO COME. JUST FIVE YEARS AFTER PAIGE’S DEATH. I THOUGHT I WOULD BE OLDER. I THOUGHT THERE WOULD BE MORE TIME. STATISTICALLY SPEAKING, THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN. THIS WEEK, THE FOUNDATION LAUNCHED THE LOVE NEVER ENDS INITIATIVE TO PASS ON THE LOVE AND SUPPORT THEY RECEIVED TO THE OTHER FAMILIES. WE JUST REFLECTED BACK ON HOW IT FELT TO GET THOSE CARDS AND SAID, YOU KNOW WHAT, LET’S OPEN OUR ANCHOR STORES UP. THAT’S WHAT THIS IS FOR. IT’S A COMMUNITY HUB. IT’S A COMMUNITY SPACE. Daegan Page Foundation offers support to families of fallen service members through new initiative
Nebraska and Iowa are mourning the loss of three more active duty service members, and Wendy Adelson, the mother of Marine Corporal Daegan Page, is feeling the resurgence of her own grief. I thought there would be more time. Statistically speaking, there should have been, but there wasn’t.”In response, the Daegan Page Foundation is reaching out to the families of these local heroes, offering support through handwritten cards, a gesture that helped Page’s family during their darkest times. “We still say today when we grab out some of those packages that we got from youth around the country, it’s a pretty amazing feeling to see the things that they learned about Daegan,” she said.The foundation launched the “Loved Never Ends” initiative to extend the love and support they received to other families.”We just reflected back on how it felt to get those cards and said, you know what? Let’s open our anchor commons doors up. That’s what this is for. It’s a community hub.
