Omaha man takes plea deal in child sexual assault case
An Omaha man charged in a child abuse case involving a retired Omaha police sergeant took a plea deal on Monday morning.
OMAHA, Neb. —
An Omaha man charged in a child abuse case involving a retired Omaha police sergeant took a plea deal on Monday morning.
Kenneth Beams, 41, pleaded no contest to one count of first-degree sexual assault of a child. In exchange, four felony child abuse charges were dropped.

The case also involves an ice cream truck driver who is a lifetime offender on the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.
Aaron Vance, 61, is charged with sexual assault of a minor.

Investigators spoke with the 15-year-old alleged victim of Beams and retired Omaha Police Sgt. Christy Stevens.
According to court documents, the teen disclosed that Beams brought Vance over to the house near 149th Street and Bauman Avenue to have sex with the girl.

The girl told authorities that Beams offered her up like currency for meth.
Stevens is charged with five counts of felony child abuse in the case. She worked for the department from 2000 to 2023, Omaha police confirmed.
Beams is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 5.
