Nebraska men’s basketball players Sam Hoiberg, Connor Essegian, and Pryce Sandfort coached young athletes at a basketball camp in Elkhorn, emphasizing fundamentals and giving back to the community. “Super excited to be out here with these kids. It’s a great turnout,” Pryce Sandfort said. The players expressed their gratitude for the support they’ve received and their desire to give back to the state. “I know every single one of these kids watched us play, and I know I wasn’t on the floor a lot, but still, just seeing the support that they’ve shown me. I mean, why not give back to the state that gave us everything?” Connor Essegian said. Sandfort shared his passion for teaching the basics of basketball, which he learned growing up. “I’d love to help them out with some of the fundamentals. I was a big fundamentals kid growing up with my dad and grandpa, just hard fundamentals,” Sandfort said. Essegian reflected on the impact of his own coach, Casey Adams, who helped him pursue his dream of playing Division I basketball. “Coach Casey Adams. He pushed me to the next level that I had never been pushed to growing up. When I told him that my dream was to play Division I basketball, he took that as personal as I did,” Essegian said. The camp also included lighthearted competition among the players over who might be the best coach. “Definitely not Connor. I’d probably say it’s probably me or Sam. Sam probably right now has it,” Sandfort said. Essegian praised Hoiberg’s potential as a future coach. “Got to be the coach’s kid, Sam. I feel one day he’ll be on a coaching staff somewhere, leading the team to a championship. He’s got it in him. Once he’s done playing because he’s going to be a pro!” Essegian said.Make sure you can always see the latest news, weather, sports and more from KETV NewsWatch 7 on Google search.NAVIGATE: Home | Weather | Local News | National | Sports | Newscasts on demand |
