Nebraska home first in U.S. connected under federal broadband program
A household near Ogallala, Nebraska, has become the first in the nation to be connected under the federal Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment program, known as BEAD. Officials said the program is designed to deliver high-speed internet by building infrastructure through partnerships with companies like VistaBeam. Governor Jim Pillen said he is pleased the state is utilizing taxpayer dollars effectively. “I think that it is important for us to remember this is way, way more than just a connection. We are utilizing technology that is reaching at some of the hardest-to-serve locations,” Pillen said.
