LINCOLN — A bronze sculpture of a Pony Express rider, produced by Nebraska artist Linda Egle, will be officially dedicated in Gothenburg at 2 p.m. on April 22.

The sculpture, which has been undergoing final touches since being delivered last summer, sits at the Ehmen Park Arboretum in Gothenburg, adjacent to the Pony Express Station Museum.

It depicts a Pony Express rider atop a galloping horse and reinforces the central Nebraska town’s history as a site on the route of the Pony Express.

The log station was disassembled and relocated from its original site along the route in the 1930s and has served as a major tourist attraction since.

“The Pony Express is a vital part of Gothenburg’s identity,” said Matt Weiss, president of the Gothenburg Pony Express Association, which operates the Station Museum.

“This sculpture not only honors the riders who helped unite the country during a pivotal era but also serves as an educational tool and artistic landmark for our community,” Weiss said in a press release.

The new sculpture joins a bronze done by Colorado sculptor George Walby. It was donated back in 2022.
