Staff Sgt. Robert Keuchel, an Omaha native and World War II gunner, will be honored Friday with a procession to his final resting place at Omaha National Cemetery. Keuchel served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II and was killed in 1945 when his plane was shot down by German forces over Poland. Between 2019 and 2024, agencies worked to recover possible remains from the crash site.In July 2025, the POW-MIA identified the remains as Keuchel. A private funeral service will be held Friday morning at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church. Following the service, a procession will escort Keuchel to the Omaha National Cemetery. The public is invited to honor his life by lining the procession route, which will travel from 168th Street to Q Street, Q to 144th Street and 144th to Schram Road. Omaha police and the Patriot Guard will escort the procession. Drivers in the area are advised to exercise patience and prepare for delays, and those watching the procession are asked not to block traffic.
