Omaha Symphony, police and MECA team up to keep Fourth of July fireworks show secure
OMAHA, Neb. —
To put on a show, you need audio-visual equipment, a stage, massive tanks of water for hydration, bike racks, warning signs, extra trash cans and extra security.
You also need help from audio companies and lighting companies. The Omaha Symphony, Omaha Police Department, and MECA have to be involved in a team effort.

As for the fireworks on the Fourth of July, officials are looking to avoid what happened on New Year’s Eve six months ago.

According to the city, a man emerged from the Missouri riverbank, entered the fireworks firing zone, and was ordered to leave. He then fled and tripped over a cord, ending the fireworks show early.
“That was a new one for us. Sometimes when those things happen, it really makes it to the front of your mind for the next go-around. So, it’s something we’ve been talking a lot about with Jay and ensuring that we keep the site for the fireworks completely secure so we can enjoy an entire show,” said Jaden Hill, senior director of parks for MECA.
The show on Saturday is set to be about 15 minutes long.
