CONCERNS, WHILE OTHERS SAID THE CURRENT SPEED LIMIT IS OUT OF DATE. OMAHA’S NEW CENTRAL LIBRARY IS NOW OPEN, AND IT’S A UNIQUE DESIGN THAT HONORS THE PAST AND IMAGINES THE FUTURE. YES, THIS MORNING WE’RE GOING BEYOND THE BOOKS TO SEE WHAT’S INSIDE FOR YOU. PEOPLE MAY THINK LIKE WITHIN THIS NEW TECHNOLOGICAL AGE, THAT YOU DON’T NEED LIBRARIES IN THE SAME WAY YOU DID BEFORE, BUT WE DON’T FIND THAT AT ALL. WHAT YOU’LL FIND AT THE NEW LIBRARY. I-76 DODGE NEW ADVENTURE. BEYOND THE BOOKS, LIBRARIES TODAY ARE REALLY VIBRANT AND ALWAYS BUZZING WITH ACTIVITY. COURTNEY KOPIETZ IS THE MARKETING MANAGER WITH OMAHA PUBLIC LIBRARY. SHE SAYS THE NEW CHAPTER IN OMAHA BEGINS HERE. WE LOVE LIBRARIES AS GATHERING PLACES AND COMMUNITY CONNECTORS CONNECT OVER ART AND INNOVATION. DO SPACE AND MAKERSPACE ON THE SECOND FLOOR HAS 3D LASERS AND PRINTING MACHINES, AND A PLACE WHERE EVERY THREAD TELLS A STORY TOO. WE HAVE A LONG ARM QUILTER, FOR EXAMPLE, AND SEVERAL SEWING MACHINES AND AN EMBROIDERY MACHINE. HEAD UPSTAIRS TO HEAD BACK IN TIME. A SORT OF HISTORICAL COLLECTION OF OUR COMMUNITY OBITUARIES FROM OMAHA NANCE OVER THE YEARS, AND A SPACE FOR COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TO HOST FORUMS AND WORKSHOPS FOR ANYONE LOOKING FOR RESOURCES. ESSENTIALLY, INSTEAD OF SHARING SOME MAYBE A PHONE NUMBER AND AN EMAIL AND A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION TO GO LEARN MORE, WE CAN SAY, HEY, THEY’LL BE UPSTAIRS THROUGH THIS WINDOW, YOU SEE THE BACKBONE OF OPERATIONS. THIS MASSIVE VAULT THAT CAN HOLD ABOUT 600,000 ITEMS. THE ASRS AUTOMATED STORAGE RETRIEVAL SYSTEM. 4752 BINS OF OLDER BOOKS, EXTRA BOOKS, CDS, DVDS, AND MORE. ESSENTIALLY, WE HAVE THE ABILITY TO GROW THE COLLECTION WITHOUT BEING LIMITED BY SHELF SPACE. SO COME FIND YOUR SPACE, YOUR STORY AT THE NEW CENTRAL LIBRARY. LIBRARIES ARE FOR EVERYBODY, AND IT’S JUST ONE WAY THAT WE CAN INCREASE ACCESS FOR OUR COMMUNITY. CURRENTLY, THERE ARE 13 OMAHA PUBLIC LIBRARY LOCATIONS WITH NUMBER 14 PLANNED FOR 204TH STREET. The ASRS includes 4,752 bins filled with older books, extra books, CDs, DVDs, and more. “Essentially, we have the ability to grow the collection without being limited with shelf space,” Kopietz said.
