Omaha Police Department arrested two suspects they say broke into a car and stole a firearm, license plates and a wallet, then used the stolen credit cards to make hundreds of dollars in purchases.Police arrested 38-year-old Brent Foote and 42-year-old Laura Griffith for multiple charges, including a stolen firearm and theft. The victim, Ali Hassan, found his car window smashed Thursday morning and his glove box ripped open, which contained a legal handgun. Several items were missing.” I was trying to warm up the car so I can get ready for work. Then once I approached the car, I saw a total mess outside the vehicle, and I decided to call the police. Somebody broke my window and stole my personal belongings,” Hassan said.Hassan reported the theft to the police that day, then began noticing purchases made on his credit cards. “That’s when I call this store manager and requested footage of the person using the credit cards. And that’s how the police managed to track them down,” Hassan said.Hassan’s credit cards showed several hundred dollars of purchases made at several stores throughout Omaha. Omaha Police confirmed they were able to track down both suspects.”The suspects use the credit cards. The victim’s credit cards at several different locations around town for hundreds of dollars, and we were able to look at video from those locations and get a suspect description and track down the suspect,” Omaha Police Officer Sarah Martier said.Hassan is working with his bank to file fraud charges for his credit cards. As for his firearm, he says he’ll be storing it elsewhere.
