The event featured patriotic pageantry, including military flyovers and singing performances, before Trump took center stage as the headliner. Musicians had canceled their appearances, citing concerns about the partisan nature of the event.
“The American dream is alive again. That’s something that nobody thought they’d be saying when you went through that last four years of incompetence,” Trump said.
During his speech, the president focused on what he described as his accomplishments during the first two years of his second term, emphasizing the military and the economy.
“Today, we have the largest economy on Earth. We have the strongest military on Earth. We have the most powerful technology on Earth. We have the greatest culture on Earth. And above all, we have the greatest people on Earth! The greatest!” Trump said.
The Great American State Fair officially begins Thursday, celebrating all 50 states and U.S. territories. However, not all states are sending delegations, with some citing insufficient preparation time or concerns about the event’s partisan nature.
The president said that the fair runs through July 10.
