ASHLAND, Nebraska — Nebraska’s iconic “Trump Barn” along I-80 might need a new name.
The all-capital letter “TRUMP” sign on the side of the politically flavored, big red barn is no longer there.
Statewide social media posts indicated that the nod to President Donald Trump disappeared sometime over the weekend. Only a tiny sliver of the sign remained Tuesday.

Other political signs on the barn, including ones touting Republican Secretary of State candidate Scott Petersen and an anti-abortion message remained intact.
A change in the political winds of the barn’s owner wasn’t the cause, according to the barn’s owner, Alan Volger, but the stiff Nebraska winds of recent days.
Volger, in a text to the Examiner on Monday, said the most recent Trump sign was the second he had installed on the side of his barn, which sits alongside the westbound lanes of Interstate 80, just west of the Mahoney Park exit at Ashland.
The first went up after Trump was elected in 2016, and the second, he said, went up after the original sign became faded. The second sign had become brittle, Volger said, and became a victim of the recent strong winds that swept across the state.
He said he doubted that he would erect a new Trump sign due to the expense and because he doubts the president can run again.
“I still support him,” Volger said. “The sign has made me famous, and I get a lot of moral support but it doesn’t pay very well.”
Signs advertising the campaigns of various GOP candidates and causes have been a fixture on the barn for several years. His barn has promoted other GOP candidates, including one-time gubernatorial candidate Charles Herbster and former congressional candidate Brett Lindstrom, who withdrew from the race recently in the Omaha-based 2nd Congressional District.
