Trump approves disaster declaration for western Nebraska after historic wildfires burned 821,000 acres
LINCOLN, Neb. —
More than four months after the deadly wildfires in western and central Nebraska, President Donald Trump approved a federal disaster declaration.
The declaration will cover some of the costs to repair infrastructure, as well as help farmers.

In total, Gov. Jim Pillen said there was more than $9 million in damage.
“These were historic fires, burning more than 821,000 acres,” Pillen said in a statement. “We know that on a personal level, farmers and ranchers are continuing to deal with the devastating aftermath. This request will help to ensure that roads are returned to safe and usable condition and that our electrical infrastructure is restored to proper operational standards. I appreciate the support from FEMA and President Trump in Nebraska’s recovery from these fires.”
