President Donald Trump is arriving in China on Wednesday to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, with trade and international relations expected to dominate the agenda. The trip, originally postponed in March due to the ongoing war with Iran, comes as Beijing has signaled it wants the conflict to end but does not want to get involved. Trump told reporters on Tuesday that he will briefly discuss Iran with President Xi. “I think number one, we’re going to have a long talk about it. I think he’s been relatively good, to be honest with you. You look at the blockade, no problems. They get a lot of their oil from that area,” Trump said. “He’s been somebody that we get along with, and I think you’re going to see that good things are going to happen. This is going to be a very exciting trip. A lot of good things are going to happen.”Trump has been working to strike deals with China to buy more American food and aircraft, which are expected to be part of the discussions. Rare earth minerals, technology, and fentanyl ingredients sourced from China will also likely be debated. The White House has invited more than a dozen CEOs and top executives to join the U.S. delegation, including Elon Musk, outgoing Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach, underscoring the significant role trade will play in the upcoming meetings.Conversations about Taiwan will likely take place as well. China claims Taiwan, which split from mainland China decades ago and operates with its own government. The United States supplies Taiwan with defensive weapons, but subscribes to the ‘One China Policy,’ which recognizes official government relations with China and an unofficial relationship with Taiwan. The Trump administration has committed to maintaining the One China Policy, but Trump has at times made statements and delayed aid to Taiwan, indicating he may be wavering on the decades-old position.Keep watching for the latest from the Washington News Bureau:
